Grandpa By's Applesauce
This recipe hits home every fall! I grew up with my Grandparents brining down jars and jars of the-best-appleauce-ever! They had a huge Gravenstein apple tree in their back yard and every fall they would pick the apples and my grandpa would spend hours in the kitchen (he did all the pureeing by a hand food mill) making the liquid gold. No other applesauce could compare, the sweetness with the light tartness and the warmth of the cinnamon made it unbeatable. My grandparents are no longer with us, so I have carried on the family tradition with my 4 children. We don't have a huge Gravenstein tree in our backyard, but I have found that maybe it wasn't the apple, but the love that made it taste sooo darn good. I hope you enjoy making this with your children or for those you love.
